Rohit stressed upon the fact that the players should not cross the boundary when it comes to sledging, but the on-field banter at the heat of the moment can be ignored. The initiative from the BCCI to have one of the skippers explaining the perspective of a player seems to have worked especially since there are going to be a lot of Indian umpires involved in this year’s edition.
Out of a total of 26 match officials, 17 are Indians. The umpires welcomed the suggestions made by the MI captain and felt that such conversations would be helpful for them as well as for the players. Simon Taufel, the ICC’s umpire performance and training manager was also present on the 1st day where he spoke about things that an umpire should do and shouldn’t do in crunch situations.
