Another Nordland story, “The Next Chernobyl,” won a Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. The judges wrote: “This story about aging nuclear power plants in the West and [the former] Soviet bloc, frankly, scared the hell out of us. As well it should.” Nordland, who is based in London, can cover almost any story. Recent assignments have ranged from Bosnia to Mount Everest to Chechnya. He’s also our man at the Vatican.
